Refuse Disposal Increases for New Year

January 2nd, 2012 by WCBC Radio

The cost of Allegany County refuse disposal tags will increase from 50 cents to 75 cents effective Jan. 1. This is the first increase since 2002. The 50-cent tags can still be used to dispose of multiple items or those items that require more than one tag, as long as the monetary equivalent is met. One tag is needed for each garbage bag up to 40 gallons or can weighing up to 40 pounds. Separate household items require one or more tags based on the type of item. Refuse site drop boxes are for residential use only. They do not accept appliances, ashes, batteries, brush, stumps, lumber, dead animals, liquids, tires or hazardous materials. County Administrator David Eberly said the old tags can still be used through Monday, and in some cases beyond.
