Resident Gather for Bike Lane Meeting

August 22nd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

About 70 residents attended a public meeting concerning the proposal to add a bike lane to a significant part of Frederick Street in Cumberland. Delegate Kevin Kelly opposes the plan, and took issue with the width of lanes and the meeting itself…

Residents of the neighborhood presented a petition with over 200 signatures opposing the project.  There was sizeable group from the Western Maryland Wheelmen in attendance as well to voice support for the plan. A proposal to add a bike lane to Bedford Street has been abandoned because of space and surface problems.  If the Frederick Street plan is approved, it will not proceed until a water line can be replaced in that area.
