Right To Die Legislation May Be Heading To Defeat

March 4th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

In Annapolis, the sponsor right to die legislation says his bill may be heading to defeat in a Senate committee. The bill's sponsor Frederick County Democratic Senator Ron Young says he thinks it would easily pass on the senate floor, but doesn’t think there are the necessary votes to get it out of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. The bill allows a patient with six months to live to get a prescription from their doctor which they can use to end their life. Seven Democrats and four Republicans make up the committee. Young says the four Republicans on the committee (Robert Cassilly, Michael Hough, Wayne Norman and Justin Ready) will vote against the, along with Democrat Jim Brochin. That leaves the panel’s six remaining Democrats to cast the yes votes, and Young says that’s not a guarantee. Young admits he is frustrated at the lack of progress on the bill, and those who object to it…
