Robbery Investigated, Two Teens Charged

On 09/16/17 at 9:55am Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept were contacted in reference to a robbery complaint that took place in the area of N. Mechanic St. Upon speaking with the victim Officers were advised that they had an argument with several individuals a few weeks ago at a local restaurant whom they did not know. On this date they were sitting on a bench when they observed these same individuals walk towards where they were seated. An argument again took place and the victim got up to walk away. At this time one of the subjects struck the victim with a closed fist several times causing them to fall to the ground. Once on the ground the other subjects reached into the victim’s pocket and removed his wallet containing an undisclosed amount of currency and fled on foot from the area. The victim had several injuries consistent with their account of the incident that did not require medical attention. Further investigation led to the identification of three subjects involved. They were located at the Country Club Mall and taken into custody without incident. The subjects were identified as 18 year old Anthony Horn Jr of Cumberland, 18 year old Joshua Hodel of Cumberland, and a 17 year old juvenile male of Ridgeley WV. All three subjects were transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where they were charged with Robbery, conspirancy to commit Robbery, Theft $1,000 to under $10,000, and Assault 2nd Degree. Horn and Hodel were taken for an initial appearance at District Court where they were each held on a $75,000 bail. The juvenile was released to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Services for placement.
