Rocky Gap Speeding Stop Leads To Drug Arrest

June 27th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

A Maryland State Police speed enforcement initiative this morning led to the arrest of a Pennsylvania man who was found to be transporting significant quantities of suspected heroin and crack cocaine in Allegany County.

The suspect is identified as Michael Brown, 54, of Brownsville, PA.  He is charged with multiple counts of drug possession and drug distribution charges.  Brown is currently being held without bail at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Just after 7:00 a.m. today, state troopers from the Cumberland Barrack were working a speed enforcement initiative on Interstate 68 near Rocky Gap Road.  Troopers stopped a Chevrolet sedan with multiple occupants for exceeding the speed limit.  During the traffic stop, troopers observed indications that criminal activity was occurring.

A drug detection dog scanned the car and gave a positive alert.  A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of over one-half pound of suspected crack cocaine, 18 grams of suspected heroin and $2,000 in cash.  The street value of the drugs recovered is estimated to be $30,000.  As a result of the investigation, Brown, who was a passenger in the front seat, was arrested.

Troopers were assisted in this investigation by the C3I Narcotics Task Force and other Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division personnel.  The investigation is continuing.
