June 29th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

In the late winter, early spring of 2013- the Allegany County Board of Education made upgrading and improving school security measures a top priority. It was just a few months following the tragic shooting and 20 children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut.  Budget shortfalls however have led the school board to eliminate the position of the supervisor of security.  Robert Ferrell who has served as the school safety security officer for several years  will no longer serve in that capacity as of July 1st, as the position is among 15 being cut.   Superintendent David Cox tells WCBC News that it was a difficult position to eliminate, however he is confident that security responsibilities can be adequately handled by existing personnel….
