School Board Goes To Work To Reduce Budget By Nearly $1 Million

At a meeting in March, the Allegany County Board of Education requested $31.3 million from Allegany County. The request of the county represented a 2.9 percent increase over last year's request- however the county has rejected the request. The school board, along with every other outside agency with the exception of the Sheriff’s Department are set to be flat funded- receiving the same amount as last year. On the plus side, it’s one of the few times in recent years the county hasn’t chosen the maintenance of effort route with the board- which would have meant $60,000 less than last year. Superintendent David Cox says the board now has to go to work to reduce its budget by about $900,000…
