School Superintendent Says Politics Play No Role In Personnel Decisions

Allegany County School Superintendent David Cox, dismissing speculation to the contrary, told WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” Thursday that the school board’s personnel decisions are based on funding, not politics. Last month the Board of Education approved its FY 2016 budget, balanced in part by eliminating 15 positions including that of longtime Chief of Security Bob Farrell. Farrell has retained legal counsel and is at least exploring legal options, as several sources have told WCBC News that the decision was political payback stemming from Farrell’s wife Lorelee running for a seat on the school board last year. Dr Cox said he is aware that the local school system has had a reputation of everything from nepotism to retribution when it comes to personnel decisions.
