School System Won’t Comment On Bus Driver Sex Charges

March 4th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

On Thursday, 35 year old Travis Keith Heavner, who has been working as a school bus driver in the Flintstone area was arrested on charges of sexually abusing  two young girls and soliciting another for nude photos. WCBC News has confirmed that Heavner had been an independent contractor as a bus operator with the Allegany County Public School System- however  he was not directly employed by the school system. He was vetted by the system, having passed a background check that included a search of criminal records, fingerprinting and a drug screening.  Board spokesperson Mia Cross said there would be no official statement from the system since Heavner was not an employee. After several parents  expressed concern with the situation, WCBC News reached out to Superintendent Dr David Cox for a response or comment, but he declined. Heavner is being held on a bond of $3 million. A source within the legal community tells WCBC News that the high amount is for two reasons: concern about Heavner fleeing; and concerns about repeat offenses. Additional charges are anticipated. The investigation is continuing by C3I.
