Senate Still Without Minimum Wage Increase Vote

There is still no Senate vote scheduled on the issue of increasing the minimum wage. The Senate Finance Committee held a hearing Wednesday on a minimum wage hike that already has passed the House of Delegates. It would phase in a minimum wage increase from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 by 2017.  Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mac Middleton says  that the pay issue for the aides to the disabled needs to be addressed.  Middleton wants to keep these workers' salaries at 35% above the minimum wage, but he notes that would cost the state $80-million.  He notes paying for that raise will be challenging, given the state budget picture. Middleton said he was not sure when the Senate would vote on the bill…
