Several Armed Robberies Overnight

UPDATE: Suspect is currently in the custody of the Cumberland Police Department.

On Sunday, 2/7/16, at 12:45 am CPD Officers responded to the Pit n’ Go on Frederick Street in Cumberland for a report of an armed robbery.    Upon arrival, officers made contact with the employees who reported that a masked man walked into the business, acted as if he had a gun and demanded money.  As a result, the suspect stole an amount of cash and fled the scene.   CPD officers conducted an investigation but were unable to locate the suspect at the time. 

On Monday, 2/8/16 at 1:55 am CPD Officers responded to Wendy’s on Centre Street in Cumberland after employees reported that a masked man walked into the business and demanded money.  The suspect was unable to obtain and money and fled the scene. 

A short time later at 2:09 am the Circle K convenience store on Oldtown Road in Cumberland reported that a masked man had just entered their business and displayed a gun and demanded money.  During this incident, an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.  The suspect again fled the scene. 

Further, at 2:28 am a suspect matching the same description entered the 7-11 convenience store on Maryland Avenue and again displayed a gun and demanded money.  The suspect was able to steal cash and fled the scene.    

As a precaution, Cumberland Police made contact with other 24-hour businesses in the Cumberland area and advised them of the threat and asked them to secure their businesses.  

At 2:38 am a masked suspect matching the description of the suspect in the other robberies attempted to gain entry into the Pit n’ Go on Frederick Street but was unable to do so.  CPD Officers conducted an investigation and quickly developed suspects in these cases.   The suspects were eventually located traveling in a vehicle along Columbia Street where they were found to be in possession of evidence linking them to these crimes. 

As a result of the investigation, Leonardo Deavon Hart, age 21, and Angela Marie Wingate, age 38 both of Cumberland were arrested and charged with several counts of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, carrying a firearm during a crime, theft and related charges.  At the time of this press release, both subjects were in custody at CPD awaiting a bond hearing.
