Several File On Last Day For Local Offices

February 3rd, 2016 by WCBC Radio

There were several last day filings for local office.

While there won't be primary contests, there will be competition for seats on the Allegany County Board of Education and Cumberland City Council.

Lorelee Farrell, of Flintstone, joined Tammy Fraley and incumbent Nick Hadley in the race for two seats on the school board. Farrell and Fraley were unsuccessful candidates in 2014.

Joshua Griese and John Sangiovanni swelled the number of candidates for two positions on Cumberland City Council to five. They join incumbent David Caporale, Eugene Frazier and Ben Wolters on the ballot. The latter two had recently been considered as replacements for David Kauffman on council.

One missing name is Councilwoman Nicole Alt Myers. Rumors have persisted that she is interested in another elected office. Although she has declined to comment, speculation has been that she may run for Maryland House of Delegates in 1C.

There will be three candidates for Judge of Circuit Court, including the recently appointed Judge Jeffrey Getty, and local attorneys George McKinley and James Walsh.
