Several Hundred Turn Out for Friday’s NAACP Rally

June 22nd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Several hundred participated in Friday's March for Justice rally sponsored by Allegany County Branch of the NAACP.  Registration began at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cumberland and made their way to City Hall Plaza where speakers talked about the significance of Juneteenth, the holiday celebrating the liberation of those who had been held as slaves in the United States. A tribute to George Floyd also was conducted. Floyd was the African American man killed by police during an arrest in Minneapolis on May 25. Signs with slogans such as “Black Lives Matter”; “I Can’t Breath” and “We Will Not Be Silent” were on display and vehicles traveling through downtown blew their horns in support. Despite rumors of possible outside groups disrupting the event, the march and ceremony were peaceful and uninterupted. Prior to the event, NAACP president Carmine Jackson joined WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” and she discussed the significance of the Black Lives Matter movement- and why it is necessary…

Totally unacceptable is the way the radio host treated Carmen Jackson last Friday. He’s against harmony and equality! He’s not good to listen too! He perpetuates all the wrong ideals! The rumors referred to were things he said prior to his interview.

Aydellotte is probably the one who started the rumors. The march is antithetical to everything WCBC stands for. I have it on good information that he wants to include Alex Jones in his lineup of right wing, white supremecist radio programs on CBC.

We get it people that black lives matter, but doesn’t all lives matter? Do you think blacks were the only people who suffered oppression? Hell the Chinese, Italians & Irish just to name a few were treated the same! If most of these protesters had job they wouldn’t have the time to protest. I’m sick of it.

Good grief Pat, Were the people you mentioned brought to this country across the Atlantic Ocean against their will, sold as “property” and then enslaved to work 12 hours a day in southern cotton fields? Only to see a war fought to perpetuate their enslavement which cost 600K American lives whereby they were granted their freedom only to suffer through a failed Reconstruction, the establishment of the KKK, Jim Crow, segregation, and civil rights atrocities which included lynchings and hangings. When the slaves were finally freed the vast majority of them – probably more than 90% – were illiterate. That’s because their “masters” didn’t want them to be educated.

Has anyone thought about the American Indians. We killed them, we took their land, we were not good to them. We put them on a little piece of land and said stay there, sell beads and blankets to tourists.
Today they suffer from alcoholism, drugs, mental illness. They have been deprived of what we call Our Rights. They were treated with inhuman behavior. So not only do blacks suffer and want
repreparation but lets include the original Americans…Our American Indians.

Jay: it’s irrelevant who brought them over to this country, it’s about who sold them & that was their own! Yes they have been illiterate when they where emancipated but for the last 100+ years they’ve had the opportunity to become educated, which the majority are, so what’s their beef now? They complain about police but the vast majority of blacks are killed by their own. They need to claim responsibility for that and not blame the “government” for it.

Pat, how many of your great great grandparents were slaves? How many were put in chains and beaten? How many were impregnated by their white “owners”? How many were lynched? Good grief man.

        > I oppose reparations. You can’t someone for something maybe a relative had to do 200 years ago. I would support a program that helped give minorities jobs. We need to build this country’s infrastructure. Let’s begin a program and start hiring and give people a skill. It baffles me how we are capable of creating $2.3 trillion out of thin air … but we can’t start a jobs program to help the country.

        > I wouldn’t bother trying to enlighten ‘Pat’. He’ll concoct all kinds of theories, illogical thinking, myths & whatever it takes to justify his bigotry & ignorance. It’s what they do. And WCBC helps push this ignorance & hate, all the while claiming they aren’t prejudiced. They don’t get it and are too ignorant to figure it out. That’s why racism hangs in there for so long, sadly.

      > So, Jay… then it doesn’t matter that our country decided (unlike nearly every other civilization in history) to turn, by law, their slaves into generational chattel? Geesh, as long as we don’t blame a white guy everything else is okay, huh?
