SHA prepares for winter weekend

January 13th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is pretreating roads and bridges in advance of a winter storm forecasted to bring snow, sleet and freezing rain to Maryland Saturday. The storm is expected early Saturday morning. “This weekend brings another winter storm to Maryland. This system will have a greater impact on the metro area beginning as snow, but transitioning to sleet and freezing rain during the afternoon – and that will make driving treacherous,” said Gregory C. Johnson, P.E.  “We strongly encourage motorists to wait and check travel conditions after sunset Saturday and make smart travel decisions.” Drivers can view the latest road conditions on SHA’s website at www.roads.maryland.gov and clicking “CHART.”  Travelers may obtain the latest free traffic and weather information by calling 5-1-1 from a landline or a hands-free mobile device or logging onto www.MD511.org.  Maryland’s 511 service now offers free text and email alerts for most traveled routes through 511Direct – simply register and set your routes and preferences on-line.
