Shade Agrees with Consultant on Obsolete Fairgrounds Oval

The rich history of racing at the Allegany County Fairgrounds could come to an end if the County Commissioners move forward on a facilities master plan submitted by a consultant during Thursday afternoon work session. A representative of Convergence Design, a firm retained by the county to develop a master plan for the fairgrounds, presented a series of recommendations- including eliminating the racing oval. Racing at the fairgrounds, both horse racing and motorsports, date back to the 1950’s- with plans to re-start those activities proposed as recently as last year.
