Allegany County Commissioners President Jake Shade came away from a recent meeting with city of Cumberland officials optimistic that the county seat is moving in the right direction. The focus of the meeting was the current proposal on the table to re-open both ends of the downtown mall to one-way vehicular traffic while at the same time creating a bike lane as well as limited parking spaces. Shade says the planned changes to the mall, combined with the ongoing effort to attract commercial businesses to the Rolling Mill area demonstrate that city officials are taking an aggressive approach to expanding the tax base and creating economic development opportunities…
