A recent address by national reknown economist Anirban Basu to the Greater Cumberland Committee struck a chord with Allegany County Commissioners President Jake Shade. Basu is the chairman and CEO of the Sage Policy Group, a Baltimore-based economic consulting firm. He was also appointed by Gov. Larry Hogan to chair the Maryland Economic Development Commission. In discussing the local, national and world economies he noted that Allegany County is moving in the right direction in a number of areas- noting that one bright spot for the local economy was an increase in number of college-educated people working in the area.
