In February, shortly before the Coronavirus Pandemic brought most things to a halt, some controversy had been brewing about the possibility of Allegany County no longer funding the local opportunity scholarship program. It now appears those dollars will be remaining at least for one more year. Allegany County receives a 3.75% share of the revenue accrued each month from electronic gaming at Rocky Gap Casino Resort. Those funds are deposited into the Rocky Gap Local Impact Fund and subsequently dispersed to local nonprofits by Allegany County. The largest beneficiaries of the funding have been local fire and emergency medical service companies and the Allegany County Opportunity Scholarship Fund. Disbursements from the impact fund are determined by the area’s 15-member Local Development Council and there had been some discussion early this year about re allocating those dollars toward fire and rescue units. The subject was not discussed again until Thursday’s meeting of the Allegany County Commissioners with Commissioners President Jake Shade acknowledging that the scholarships will continue to be funded for now…

This was all McKay. Multiple inside sources all say it was McKay. For someone who has an irresponsible number of children you’d think he’d value the opportunity scholarship for local children. Time for him to take his dirty laundry and leave office. Hopefully the voters will NEVER fall for his plan to take Edwards seat once it becomes available.

Shade has got to go. Heads should roll over this. How can the county deny children an education and at our locals colleges. Its too little too late in my view!
