July 25th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

On 07/24/2018 at approximately 6:20PM Deputies of The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Smouses Mill Road and US 220 in Cumberland, Maryland for a check on the well-being of two persons in a vehicle that were reportedly unconscious and unresponsive.

Deputies arrived on scene along with Fire and EMS units and located the running vehicle with two occupants in the front seats, apparently unconscious. After several attempts to arouse the individuals by knocking on the windows deputies resorted to opening the vehicle doors and making physical contact with the occupants to bring them to some level of alertness.

Evidence observed at the scene lead to a probable cause search of the vehicle and occupants.

Subsequently both the operator and passenger were found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected heroin and paraphernalia. Both were arrested for the CDS and the operator was later evaluated by an ACSO Drug Recognition Expert and found to be operating the vehicle while impaired by CDS.
