Sheriff’s Department Helps Make Contact with Driver in Distress

On  May 23rd, 2018, The Allegany County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in reference to an employee whom was believed to be suffering from a medical condition. VDOT advised that one of their employees was currently operating a State vehicle that was being tracked within Allegany County, MD. They advised that they believed the operator was in medical distress. 

A short time after receiving the call for assistance Deputies were able to locate the VDOT vehicle as it traveled westbound of Interstate 68, Flintstone, MD. Deputies were able to observe the that vehicle was being operating in a manor that indicated that the operator was suffering from some type of emergency. 

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the operator. After speaking with him it was determined that was in fact in need of medical assistance. The operator was transported to the Western Maryland Health System for treatment by the Flintstone Fire Department. Interstate 68 westbound was closed for a short amount of time during the incident. Family members of the operator were advised of his location and were en route to the Cumberland area.
