Sheriff’s Department Responds to Disturbance in LaVale

On Tuesday evening at approximately 5:00 p.m., deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Gabe's Department Store located at 12101 Winchester Road, LaVale, Allegany County, Maryland in reference to a disturbance. Allegany County 911 advised they were receiving multiple calls reporting an African American male in the store yelling and threatening to kill patrons and employees. While enroute to the scene deputies were advised that the male was threatening to kill patrons, employees and law enforcement.

As units approached the scene Allegany County 911 advised that the male had left the area in a vehicle. Upon arrival deputies interviewed witnesses who advised the male had caused a disturbance inside of Gabe’s Department Store yelling and cursing at patrons. Witnesses stated that the male began yelling that he was going to kill patrons, employees and law enforcement causing a panic in the store with patrons fleeing the store. Several store employees and patrons including small children were visibly shaken due to the incident.

Pursuant to the investigation, the male was identified as 39 year old Muslim Ali Brunson of Cumberland. Brunson was located at the Best Western Motel after Deputies and Troopers with the Maryland State Police were dispatched to that location for a disturbance. Brunson was interviewed by Deputies and Troopers and was then transported to the Western Maryland Health System for an evaluation. Brunson will be served with charges upon his release from the hospital.
