Sheriff’s Office & Health Dept Working To Spread Awareness Of Heroin Epidemic

The first in a series of town hall style meetings designed to educate the public on the growing heroin and prescription drug problems in the county proved a tremendous success. The Allegany County Sheriff's office has partnered with the local health department to help spread awareness of the heroin epidemic in the region- with the first meeting held at the end of January at the Midland Fire Hall.  In just the first month and a half of 2016, eight people have died in Allegany County from opioid and heroin related overdoses. A screening of the documentary "Behind the Orange Curtain" will highlight the public sessions. Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine was among those in attendance at the Midland meeting and says educating the public about the problem is vitally important given the current epidemic…
