Short Gap 1st Peoples Robbed

A man armed with a knife reportedly robbed the First Peoples Federal Credit Union branch on state Route 28 at about 10:15 a.m. Friday. The Cumberland Times News reports there were no injuries were reported in the incident that brought state and county units to the bank location in the Furnace Acres area along with Maryland State Police medevac helicopter and a Maryland State Police patrol unit. A Mineral County Sheriff’s Department K-9 reportedly tracked the suspect from the bank parking lot to some nearby apartments and into a wooded area. Preliminary information in police radio broadcasts indicated the suspect was a heavy-set white man wearing camouflage pants, a long-sleeve green shirt with white lettering, a gray hoodie pulled tightly around his face and sunglasses. As a result of the robbery, Frankfort Middle School and Frankfort High School are in lockdown.

As a precaution, Bel Air Elementary School has been placed in lock-in as a result of a bank robbery in Short Gap, WV, and will remain in lock-in through the end of the day.  The lock-in status at Cresaptown Elementary School has been lifted.
