January 17th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports the investigation is continuing in the late December shooting at a Short Gap residence that wounded an unidentified female who remained hospitalized Tuesday, according to Mineral County Sheriff Jeremy Taylor.

The Dec. 28 incident was previously said to be an accidental shooting, but Taylor told the Times-News no determination has been made, pending results of evidence undergoing forensic laboratory analysis.

The victim, who has not been identified by the sheriff's office, remained in the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center on Tuesday. She is reportedly in stable condition and continues to recover from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Taylor said Tuesday he was not at liberty to release further information until forensics reports are received by the sheriff's office.

No charges have been filed in the incident, according to the Mineral County Magistrate's Office.

Information about the shooting has not been available from the Mineral County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
