Shots fired in Barton

The Cumberland Times News, a Lonaconing man was arrested shortly before dawn Thursday following a four-hour search that began after he allegedly fired a shotgun during a domestic incident in Barton, according to Maryland State Police. The victim was not injured in the 1:30 a.m. incident that occurred in the 18700 block of Legislative Road in Barton, police said. The suspect, Robert Melvin Foote Jr., 44, reportedly ran from the scene after firing three shots from a shotgun at the victim inside a Legislative Road residence. The victim was not struck and was not injured, police said. Foote eluded police for four hours, despite the search that included the Maryland State Police medevac helicopter, a state police K-9 Unit, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office deputies and members of the C3I Unit. Foote was located in a traffic stop at an undisclosed location at about 4:45 a.m. by state police and deputies. The arrest was made without incident. Police said the shotgun was recovered following the incident. Foote was charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime. Foote remained in custody late Thursday morning awaiting a bond hearing.
