Social gatherings banned in areas of Morgantown connected to WVU campus

September 11th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Parties and similar social gatherings have been banned in areas of Morgantown covering the West Virginia University main campus and neighborhoods where university students typically live.

According to an order signed by Interim-City Manager Emily Muzzarelli on Thursday, parties at residential units, yards or parking lots in certain neighborhoods are prohibited. The restrictions do not apply to deliveries, maintenance, repairs or other regular business.

The order comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Monongalia County, mostly generated by cases among WVU students. Monongalia County is the only county in the “red” category on the Department of Health and Human Resources County Alert System map, forcing the county to begin the public school year with remote learning, while cancelling all extra-circular activities.
