Sources Say CEDC & County Merger A Done Deal

January 9th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

According to sources, the long discussed merger of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation and Allegany County is essentially a done deal- and a memorandum of understanding could be signed next week.  The CEDC and county first began formally discussing a merger in July- and while there was some initial enthusiasm by all parties involved- that began in wane late in the year with County Commissioners President Jake Shade announcing that the sides were far apart in negotiations. Shade added at the time that if a deal was not struck by the end of the year the county would likely move on. That situation has changed. County Commissioner David Caporale tells WCBC News that he met recently with CEDC representatives and an agreement is close at hand…

The public needs to know if the CEDC demand of 1.4 Million Dollars was met by the County?

Well that’s some of the worst economic news for Allegany County since Luke closed. The CEDC hasn’t seen a single project to completion yet and has polarized the citizens of Cumberland with their projects of destruction.

      > True enough! The city will continue to be double billed for this boondoggle. We will pay with our city and county taxes for the same worthless services. Is Frostburg going to make additional contributions for this? Westernport? No, just the idiots in Cumberland.

Anyone running for county office that campaigns to cancel this gets my vote.
