Stabbing at NBCI

A 34-year-old inmate of the North Branch Correctional Institution was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Center after he was reportedly stabbed by two other inmates, according to the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. THe Cumberland Times News reports the inmate reportedly suffered wounds to his upper torso. Officials said the injuries apparently were not of a life-threatening nature.

A Cumberland Fire Department ambulance took the victim to the hospital after being dispatched to the maximum-security prison on U.S. Route 220 just after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

 

 

Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene by the Allegany County 911 emergency center.

DPSCS spokesman Gerard Shields reported a homemade weapon was recovered during the investigation of the incident in which two inmates were taken into custody.

The injured inmate, whose identity was not disclosed, was reportedly serving a 20-year sentence for robbery and weapon charges, Shields said.
