February 13th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

A 34-year-old inmate was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center early Tuesday after he was reportedly stabbed by two fellow inmates. The Cumberland Times News reports the assailants were not immediately identified by prison officials, a spokesman for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said. The injured inmate suffered a puncture wound to the chest. The injuries to the victim, who was serving a 12-year sentence for assault, were not believed to be life threatening, the spokesman said. Facility officials are investigating the 5 a.m. incident, which took place in front of a housing tier.
