State Ethics Commission Clears Pirolozzi Of Any Inappropriate Activity

September 29th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

It may be a classic case of a “moral victory” but also a case of too little, too late in the realities of a political campaign. In the days leading up to last year’s House of Delegates District 1B race in Allegany County between incumbent democrat Kevin Kelly and his republican challenger Mary Beth Pirolozzi- an advertisement appeared in the Cumberland Times News accusing Piorlozzi of accepting illegal gifts from lobbyist Bruce Bereano. Ironically Bereano, a close friend of Kelly, willingly participated in the ad which attempted to raise questions about Pirolozzi’s character in the waning hours of a hotly contested campaign. The ad came so close to Election Day, that there was nothing Pirolozzi could do at the time to attempt to clear her name. Months later, in March of this year, the state ethics commission cleared her of any inappropriate activity. Although warned by previous Kelly opponents that the veteran lawmaker made it a habit to put out last minute attack ads- Pirolozzi told WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” that she was still shocked and disappointed by that turn of events…
