In a long anticipated action, State Schools Superintendent Karen Salmon made it official Wednesday afternoon, announcing that Maryland schools will remain closed for the rest of the academic year. Under Salmon's previous announcement, buildings were shuttered through next Friday. Salmon said the decision was made in consultation with the Maryland State Board of Education, the Maryland Department of Health and outside health experts. The decision puts Maryland in line with all neighboring states and the District of Columbia.
