State Police Investigate Lavale Accident

On Sunday morning at 2:50, troopers from the Maryland State Police Lavale Barracks were called to respond to a motor vehicle collision at 89 Warfield Place, Lavale, MD.  When Troopers arrived they located a blue 2006 Hyundai Tiburon passenger vehicle with MD tags.  Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Derek Tyler Barb (20 years old) of Cumberland, MD, intentionally drove his vehicle into a tree on Warfield Place with the intent to harm himself.  Further investigation revealed after the collision, Barb further attempted to harm him by cutting himself with a knife.  Barb was determined to be under the influence of alcohol during the incident.  Barb was transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Lavale EMS Company for treatment and for mental status change.  Barb was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
