State Police investigating man’s death

Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found this morning along a logging road in a densely wooded area of Garrett County. 

 

Investigators are working to confirm the man’s identification and notify his family.  His name will be released after that occurs.

 

Preliminary information indicates that this morning, Maryland Natural Resources Police requested assistance from Maryland State Police in a search they were conducting for a man reported missing by a friend.  Shortly after 9:30 a.m. today, the crew of Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 5, located the man’s body while conducting an aerial search of the region around the Savage River State Forest. 

 

The man’s body was found lying on a logging road in a wooded area in the 1700-block of Pineswamp Road, in Barton, Md.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

 

Police have observed signs of trauma on the man’s body.  The cause and manner of death have not been identified at this time.  The body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. 

 

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division and the State Police Homicide Unit have responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.  Assistance is being provided by investigators from C3I and the Natural Resources Police.
