State School Superintendent Reports Increase in Enrollment

Although Allegany and Garrett county schools opened last week- the rest of the state’s public school systems officially began the new school year this week following Labor Day.  Allegany County is not one of them, but Maryland State School Superintendent Karen Salmon reports that there is an increase in enrollment in more than half of school systems,  and that  has the state poised to serve nearly 900,000 students, a record number for Maryland. Salmon says in addition there are a large number of new and replacement schools opening for the new school year- and school security remains a top priority…
