While Hurricane Florence is expected to meander in the South this weekend, local emergency officials were preparing Thursday should the storm push north and bring heavy rainfall and possibly flooding to Western Maryland next week. According to the National Weather Service, Florence will likely make landfall sometime Friday after lashing the Outer Banks and other coastal areas of North Carolina on Thursday. A communication from the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services on Thursday said rain from the storm’s remnants could impact the area early next week. “At this time, projected rainfall totals are between 3-4 (inches) but this could change as the forecast track of the remnants is very preliminary at this point,” reads the communication. The department said residents should continue with their emergency preparedness plans and continue to monitor the “developing weather situation.”
