October 1st, 2019 by WCBC Radio

A late afternoon fire that occurred Monday inside a dormitory at Frostburg State University was deliberately set, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. The Cumberland Times News reports the incident occurred at 4:55 p.m. at 101 Braddock Road when "a student ignited small amounts of combustible materials inside an interior hallway of a three-story dormitory as he was passing through," the fire marshal's office said.

The fire was discovered by occupants and was reportedly handled without the alert and response of the Frostburg Volunteer Fire Department. There was no activation of the building's smoke alarms or its sprinkler system.

Investigators said charges may be pending against the student involved in the incident.
