Summer Water Issues Continue to Plague Region

August 9th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Another weekend, another water main break. Cumberland City water personnel were sent to the 600 block of Greene Street Saturday for a break.

Service was affected in the general area of the leak.

Water issues are fairly common during the spring thaw, and during freezing and warming during the winter. Summer problems are usually isolated.

Yet the city can finds MILLIONS to create empty fields on Park St, change the mall bricks, fund a ’boutique’ hotel, etc. But provide an ESSENTIAL & BASIC service like water?? Not so much.

The city adminstration would like nothing better than to turn our water system over to some carpetbagger private water company. If you think our water rates are high now just wait if that’s allowed to happen

It’s been this way for many years. When a 50 year old pipe bursts the repair is made to the burst area with no thought of continuing with the replacement of the 50 year old pipes.
One of these days, long into the future, everything will have been replaced or repaired, but by that time many of the first repairs will need replacement and repair again.
    Rinse, repeat.

It’s the same way in LaVale. Antiquated infrastructure without the financial means to upgrade.
