Talks Underway For Second Job Fair To Assist Luke Mill Employees

With more than 1,000 people having attended this week’s job fair Luke Mill employees- talks are already underway about a second event. Tuesday’s job fair was held at the Bruce Outreach Center in Westernport and it was structured in a way so that each shift would have opportunities to apply for jobs or to get information about available assistance. It was announced on April 30 that the Verso Corp. mill in Luke would close its doors on June 30. Last week, Verso added that paper production would cease a month earlier on May 31. The closure will leave an estimated 675 on-site workers, and hundreds of ancillary contract workers, out of work.     The state is seriously talking about putting 200 million into Pimlico Race Track to save a once a year horse race. How much will the state commit to saving a year round factory?
