Tax Free Week

August 8th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Maryland residents are encouraged to do their shopping for shoes and clothes this coming week as the state’s “Back to School” tax-free week began Sunday, August 9, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 15. During this time, purchases of any single, qualifying article of clothing or footwear priced $100 or less — regardless of how many purchased — will be exempt from the state’s 6 percent sales tax. Comptroller Peter Franchot has spent the past few days highlighting the upcoming tax-free week in Maryland- with various stops across the state. He said that losing the tax revenue for a week is more than off set by the large increase in the number of people shopping- including those coming to Maryland from surrounding states to take advantage of the promotion
