It's Shop Maryland Tax Free Week, and it runs through Saturday.
Any single qualifying article of clothing or footwear priced at $100 or less is exempt from the state's 6 percent sales tax, regardless of how many items are purchased at the same time. In addition, the first $40 of any backpack or bookbag purchase this week is also tax free.
Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot and the Maryland Retailers Association are promoting a social media contest in which the winners will receive scholarship money.
All you have to do is take a Maryland-themed photo while shopping, write a catchy caption, and then post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag “shopmdtaxfree.”
