Thanksgiving Fire Under Investigation

 A Thanksgiving morning fire heavily damaged an Oakland apartment building. Firefighters were called to 53 Highview Drive at 8 a.m. Thursday morning. The Cumberland Times News reports thirty firefighters from four volunteer departments fought the blaze inside the two-story, three-unit building, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. No residents were located in the building during the incident and no other injuries were reported, fire officials said. The fire started in the interior of the structure and its primary cause remains under investigation, according to fire officials. The fire caused about $400,000 damage to the building and another $100,000 to its contents. The building is owned by Donald and Rachel Nine. Firefighters from Oakland, Deer Park, Deep Creek and Gorman battled the blaze. Rescue squads from the Bayard Volunteer Fire Department and Southern Garrett also responded.
