THEFT ARREST On Sunday November 8, 2015, at 3:15 pm, Cumberland City Police Officers responded to a business on Park Street for a Theft complaint. Investigation into this matter revealed that Matthew Smith, age 24 of Ridgeley West Virginia, was observed by staff members of the business, concealing store owned items in his clothing garments. Smith turned over the items and was placed in custody and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing. Smith was criminally cited and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court. Matthew Smith, age 24. Ridgeley, West Virginia. CHARGE: Theft less than $1,000.00.
SUMMONS SERVICE On Sunday November 8, 2015, Cumberland City Police served a criminal summons on Stephanie Barb, age 26 of Cumberland, Maryland. The summons was issued a result of a November 3, 2015 Theft investigation where Barb allegedly stole a personal check from a Homer Street residence and cashed it a business on Greene Street. Barb was served and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court. Stephanie Barb, age 26. Cumberland, Maryland. CHARGES: Theft less than $1,000.00, Theft less than $100.00, Letter-open without permission.
SUMMONS SERVICE On Sunday November 8, 2015, Cumberland City Police served a criminal summons on Caitlyn Castle, age 24 of Cumberland, Maryland. The summons was issued by a private citizen who previously filed a Peace Order against Castle. The complainant alleged that Castle violated the terms of the peace order on three different occasions on October 30, 2015. Castle was served and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court. Caitlyn Castle, age 24. Cumberland, Maryland. CHARGES: Peace Order-fail to comply (3 counts).

On 1/15/15, Deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to Super Shoes in Corriganville for a report of a suspicious subject removing security devices from merchandise. The subject left prior to the arrival of the Deputies. Employees described the vehicle and Deputies located the vehicle in the parking lot at Dunham's in the LaVale Plaza. The subject was located inside the store and identified as Jason Mathhew Kaufman (25 years old, Eglon, WV). Subsequent investigation revealed that KAUFMAN was the subject removing the security devices from the merchandise at Super Shoes and also, following a consent search of KAUFMAN's vehicle, it was discovered that KAUFMAN stole merchandise from Ollie's. CDS and paraphernalia were also located during the search of the vehicle.
KAUFMAN was arrested and charged with the following:
Theft less than $1,000
Theft less than $100
CDS: Possession other than marihuana
Possession of paraphernalia
Following an initial appearance in front of a District Court Commissioner, KAUFMAN was ordered held on $3,500.00
His vehicle was also impounded and the investigation is on going.
