Three Former Maryland Governors Interviewed

In a wide-ranging interview arranged by Capital Gazette Communications- three former Maryland governors tackled a wide range of issues- including the presidential aspirations of current Governor Martin O’Malley.  Participating were Govs. Marvin Mandel, Robert Ehrlich and Parris Glendening.  It was the first time since they left office the former governors had talked together about their experiences. Gov. Harry Hughes, the only other living ex-governor, was unable to attend because of illness.  As the three men sat in the Casper R Taylor House Building in Annapolis- the growing talk of an O’Malley run for the White House was addressed. Ehrlich, who was defeated in his bid for a second term as governor by O’Malley, said he has a policy of not criticizing others who held the office and declined comment on the O’Malley’s future political plans. Mandel, 93, said that as far as qualifications, he thinks there is no greater training ground for national office than a stint as governor…
