Times-News Printing Operations Moved Ahead of Schedule

March 8th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Initially, the move of printing operations of the Cumberland-Times News was supposed to take place on March 25th, but that was moved up to last Saturday. WCBC News has learned that seven pressmen and a part timer lost their jobs at the end of last week.  They learned of the revised schedule last Wednesday.

The newspaper had announced its intentions a few weeks ago, saying that it would be maintaining news gathering, editorial and distribution in Cumberland.

Various newspapers have gone to press in Cumberland for over 200 years, with the Allegany Freeman being printed here in 1812.  Local historians say there may have been a press here as early as the 18th Century.
