Longtime Allegany County teacher and union representatives Tom Shaffer was honored Wednesday morning in ceremonies at the Allegany Museum as he was presented with the “William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award”. The award was created in 2012 to honor the legacy of public service exemplified by former Governor, Comptroller and Baltimore City Mayor William Donald Schaefer.
