Averey Bridges died Friday of injuries suffered in a Thursday morning accident on Route 51 at Mexico Farms Road.
The mishap was reported at 7:22 AM and is being investigated by Maryland State Police. Bridges was initially taken to Western Maryland Health System, and then to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Due to weather conditions, Trooper 5 Medevac could not be utilized to tend to the injured.
Averey was the daughter of Allegany County Deputy Sheriff Craig and Melissa Bridges and was a student at Mountain Ridge High School in Frostburg, where she was a star athlete.
Allegany County Public Schools made counselors available at the school Friday for students in need of help in dealing with their grief.
