Transfer of WMHS Braddock Campus to Board Complete

On Thursday, members of the Allegany County Board of Education, the Western Maryland Health System, and the City of Cumberland attended the closing on the transfer of the WMHS’s Braddock Campus to the Board of Education.  The 26-acre site will be used by the public school system as the site for the construction of the new Allegany High School. Grimm & Parker Architects completed a comprehensive feasibility study on the systems and facilities of the site which included the evaluation of the existing structures on the Braddock Campus site and their potential for reuse.  Frequently at odds over school funding priorities earlier this year, the County Commissioners and School Board now seem to be on the same page.  The Board, which has included renovations and additions at Braddock and Washington middle schools on its CIPā€ˆfor the past several years, removed them from this year’s list — partly to assure county leaders that they won’t be asked to fund two additional major projects in the decade ahead.
