Truck Accident Closes Interstate

Traffic on Interstate 68 westbound was reduced to one lane for several hours Sunday after a tractor-trailer carrying liquid pesticide and ammonium sulphate powder crashed near the 64-mile marker. The driver, Kipp Harned, 27, of Tuscola, Ill., was treated for minor injuries and released from the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center following the 2:33 p.m. accident, Maryland State Police said. Harned was cited for negligent driving. In addition to state police, personnel from Orleans and Flintstone volunteer fire companies and the Maryland Highway Administration responded to the scene. The Allegany County hazmat team cleaned up the road before it was reopened around 6:40 p.m according to Maryand State Police.
