Trucker Escapes Injury in Haystack Rollover

June 14th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Around 6:30 Saturday morning, a tractor trailer overturned in the eastbound lane of I-68 on Haystack just prior to the Rt-220 exit.

The driver was uninjured and no passengers were in the truck and no other vehicles were involved. LaVale Fire Department, LaVale Rescue, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services, a DES EMS supervisor and the county’s special operations team responded to the crash.

Traffic was congested in the area for an extended period of time while fire crews worked with state highway and the tow company to remove the truck. Ironically, road construction crews had just completed paving in that area on Thursday of last week.

The Haystack Mountain area had been the site of a number of truck crashes over a one month period early last fall, leading to the project.

If I remember correctly the MSP was proud to announce that they issued 160 citations in that area over a one month period last fall.
Since then it seems that they have packed up and left even though the same situation is happening all of the time.
This may or may not bring them back again for a period of time.
