Two Arrested In LaVale For CDS And Numerous Other Charges

On 03/25/2018 at approximately 10:15 PM Deputies of The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were on routine patrol in the area of Winchester Road near LaVale Sheetz. Deputies observed a vehicle operator not wearing his seatbelt and initiated a traffic stop.

Deputies noticed the odor of CDS emanating from inside of the vehicle. The operator and occupant were removed from the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. During the course of the vehicle search, a jar of suspected CDS was located. The operator rushed the deputy and assaulted him. During the course of the assault the operator retrieved a black duffle bag from within the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies gave chase to the operator who had jumped into a creek along Rt. 40.

The operator was apprehended and placed into custody.

Upon returning to the vehicle deputies discovered that the original jar of CDS had been removed from the scene. With additional investigation, a review of Sheetz surveillance and the assistance of an MSP K9 the jar of CDS was located a short distance west of the vehicle. It was learned that while deputies were pursuing the operator the passenger had retrieved the jar and removed it from the scene. The black duffel bag, that was removed from deputies by the operator, was located and found to contain additional suspected CDS.

A sum of US currency, to include counterfeit currency, as well as CDS paraphernalia and packaging material was seized from the vehicle and occupants.

Pursuant to the investigation the following persons were charged in this incident:

Fleeing and Eluding Police on Foot

Failure to Wear Seatbelt

Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS

2nd Degree Assault x2

Possession of CDS Schedule I

Possession of CDS Schedule II

False Statement

Resisting Arrest

Assault on Police

Disorderly Conduct

Delivering CDS to a Place of Confinement

Possession of Counterfeit Currency

COLLIN MALIK HOFFLER (Passenger) 21 years old of District Heights, MD:

Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS

Possession of Schedule I CDS

Possession of Schedule II CDS

False Statement

Obstruction of Justice

Interfering with an Arrest

Altering/Removing Evidence

 

Both suspects were detained at the Allegany County Detention Center pending an Initial Appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

 

Both deputies suffered minor injuries in the altercation and did not require medical treatment. Units from the Maryland State Police assisted at the scene.
